In collaboration with artist/architect Blaithin Quinn, Red Bird’s first venture in architecture focuses on the eccentric urban landscape of Galway’s West End. With a focused brief from the beginning and with specific deadline, a large oeuvre of work was completed in a short period of time. As an exhibition, shown in Nun’s Island Theatre, Shaping Space, reflected Red Bird’s capability to work within a themed and structured project format, and represents a new level of professionalism for the collective. The forms and aesthetic of the show came to capture the unique essence of Galway’s West End, gaining the attention of both the local and artistic community in Galway. The show culminated in a multi-sensory, immersive curatorial experience which exemplified an artistic expression of the eclectic sights, sounds and feel of Galway’s West End.
Shaping Space architecture project was funded by The Arts Council of Ireland and The Department of Arts, Heritage and The Gaeltacht under the Engaging with Architecture Award.
